Independence Day

Sometimes I wonder if we truly remember the struggles our Founding Fathers went through to create this nation The United States of America.

At the time of our founding we were a part of a large British Empire with colonies from present day Canada to the  Caribbean Sea.

Thirteen of these colonies would defy the superpower of the day Great Britain and go it alone.

Man was not a subject to be ruled, but free to be governed by as few laws as possible to protect the freedoms of all and maintain social order.

Only God was the Monarch of this nation and government was by consent of the governed. No earthly king was needed, only good men and women to be leaders for a time and then surrender that stewardship to another and return to the ranks of society from which they came.

To lose this revolution was treason and to win it was independence and an unknown future.

Since that time we have had two constitutions, The Articles of Confederation and the United States Constitution which we use today as amended.

We have fought wars at home, abroad, and against each other. We have grown across a continent, added a large mass of northern land, and incorporated two former independent nations into our states.

Today as you look back through history, remember the sacrifices made to make and then keep America free. We have those at home and abroad that want to change America as we know it.

We must not forget that Declaration of Independence that told a mighty king that divine right is not inherent in the sovereign, but in the people.

That laws exist to benefit men and not to enslave them, but to keep all men and women free by setting the boundaries that must be respected and not breached. To reward good citizenship  and punish those who broke the law and face the penalty to society.

Our identity is not a political class of rulers, but all citizens taking the leadership at  sometime in whatever capacity they can.

May we recognize freedom can be lost to those who seek to rule over us either foreign or domestic. Freedom must always be maintained or it will be lost.

Happy Independence Day.
